My flight over to Germany was so awesome! I had a row of 4 seats to myself so I got to lay down and sleep most of the flight. My sponsor, Joy and her husband Joe, picked me up from the airport and we headed up to the base. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get my id card yet so I pretty much don't exist in the Army world. Hopefully I'll be able to get it on Friday. It stinks because I'm very dependent upon other people to sign me in to the base, grocery shop, etc. In the Army, I think it's actually called a post instead of base but because of my upbringing I'm having a hard time switching that!
The hotel I'm at is wonderful. It's very close to base so eventually I'll be able to walk there. I have a kitchen and I was able to unpack all my suitcases (I've been living out of a suitcase since June). The little things make me happy.
Today was my first day of work. The staff seems really great and friendly. Everyone keeps asking me if I've found a place to live yet- I'm like
geez I just got here yesterday!!! I'm not getting my stuff or my car probably until October so I don't want to move too far from base
since I'll probably be walking for a while unless I decide to rent a car or someone has one for me to borrow. I wasn't able to get into my classroom though because they just waxed my floor today so I kind of wandered around school, trying to meet people. I've already had about 4 dinner invites! Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to start setting up my classroom and actually figuring out what my job is :)
After work, I walked down the street to explore the restaurants and stores. The town of Grafenwoehr is pretty cute. There was a street vendor who was selling rotisserie chickens so I got a half and then stopped by a backerei to buy a brot (bread). My jet lag is pretty good but I'll probably be heading to bed soon!
Please pray that I'll get my id card soon so I can actually be a person here :)

Just reading your blog makes me miss our overseas duty station.:( I'm thrilled that you are finally in Germany, and I can't wait to see how God will provide for you in other ways...hope he provides the ID card soon! All my best, Ashley
ReplyDeleteThe place your staying looks great! I'm so happy for you that God provided your dream job. Hey, are any of those dinner dates? ;) Just checking...we will need advanced warning if you decide to get hitched in another country. I hear air fair is better if booked in advance. :) Just kidding and also hoping...that this will be how God also provides a sweet man for you. Hugs and prayers for you! -aj
