I visited the town of Kallmunz during one of my castle ruin exploration days (just get in the car with a few addresses and go on an adventure!). The whole town is pretty picturesque - the colorful buildings, beautiful river running through town and a castle at the top of the hill! It's near to Hohenfels and took about an hour to get to (there's another set of Castle Ruins nearby that I missed because it got too dark but I'll definitely check them out next time... I think they were called Laaber Burgruines)
I loved this one- the color is my favorite and it was just tucked right into the mountainside! I loved the art on this white one as well.
St. Sebastian Church
After you walk around town for a bit look for the "zur burg" sign near the church. You walk up steps basically the whole way to the top and it's pretty steep but there are some great lookout points along the way to stop and take pictures (and catch your breath!)
Part of the ruins were blocked off so you couldn't fully explore it but I don't know if it was like that just because it was winter or if it's always like that.
This reminds me of Lord of the Rings when they were up in the castle ruins fighting the Nazgul (nerd alert! haha)
And when you are by yourself it's either selfies or setting the timer for pics :)
Amazing shots of the town of Kallmunz.
This little owl on the end of the bridge was a perfect end to a great day of exploring and hiking.
