17 hours on a plane and dried octopus

7/01/2008

It is very weird leaving on a Monday and landing on a Wednesday. So right now while I'm typing, it is 4 pm in Dallas on Tuesday and 6 am in Korea on Wednesday.

When traveling overseas, I've always flown east where you gain hours instead of losing them. Dallas is 13 hours behind Nanjing, where I will eventually be later this week.  Between being in Dallas, flying to LA, LA to Seoul and Seoul to Shanghai I will have been on an airplane for 17 hours and waiting at an airport for about 10 hours. All the flights have been pretty good. I was able to sleep a lot on the long flight and I was by the window which was nice. We flew Asiana Air and it is actually one of the nicest planes and service I've ever had.

The food was pretty good too- I had a Korean vegetable and rice dish for dinner. But when I was offered dried octopus for breakfast I had to pass on that one.
I'm a pretty adventurous eater but I just couldn't stomach it at 3 in the morning.

Okay that's not exactly what it looked like but the picture made me laugh.

  1. Ni hao!

Toney eats that dried octopus if you can believe it. I'd be willing to try it, but like you...not at 3 AM. I don’t remember what number you were on when you left but Les is up to almost a 4 I would say! So sad you are going to miss out. Although you got ahead quite a bit on the flight back from London when we bore our souls and told appalling secrets. Miss you girl!

  2. WHERE did you find that pic? That is hilarious and I laughed out loud. Um, yeah, I would not touch dried octopus with a ten-foot chopstick...Glad you're being well taken care of, though. Miss you, too!
Hasta luego! Or maybe "konichiwa" will suffice. (Sorry, Laura, I can't compete on the Mandarin...)

  5. Interesting food. That duck looks pretty scary to eat. Looks like you are having a good time and experiencing new and intriguing things. Now we know why Asian people are so thin....hahaha. Miss ya sis!
