China

Day off

7/15/2008

Well I'm feeling better and back to school.  Only 4 more days of teaching!  While I'm having a good time with the kids all the planning and preparation for lessons has really been a lot of work.  Good thing I still have a few weeks off when I get back before I have to go to school again.

Sunday was our day off.  We ended up having to move hotels- apparently in China when the government wants something, the government gets it.  The previous hotel we were staying at was government owned and they needed it for a conference this week so we got bumped.  The new hotel is actually nicer and closer to downtown (aka shopping) so no one really cared about having to move.

A group of us went exploring at Zhongshan Mountain National Park (Purple Mountain Lake).  It was very beautiful to see but it was sooooooo hot and humid.  It literally felt like we were in a rain forest.

After that we went shopping in the underground mall in downtown.  The girls I'm with love to shop so we spent a few hours there.  All the shops are so tiny and if you want to try anything on they just put up a sheet for you to go behind.  I didn't buy any clothes but I did get a cute "Coach" wallet and a purse.

My favorite meal so far!!  We found a really good dumpling place near our hotel- all this cost about 25 yuan total (which is about 4 dollars)- split between 4 people not a bad price for dinner!
