We have been at the school for a few days now. We did two days of planning at the school and then attended the Opening ceremony. There are so many kids at the school- they were all so cute in their yellow shirts. Do you think anyone will notice if I sneak one of the small ones home in my bag? :) The kids seem so little to be living without their parents at the school. They were also very talkative in the ceremony- the teachers and officials didn't seem to mind so I guess that is pretty common. Then again, there were over 1,000 students in the small auditorium so I guess it could have just been hot and crowded.
We had to get up and introduce ourselves to the school and present our gifts to the officials. Then there was a magician, kung fu guys and finally fireworks- happy late 4th of july!
Isn't this an awesome fireworks shot- thanks Lynn's camera!!
We also had a Welcome dinner with the officials of the school. They kept the wine and beer coming! What I've noticed in most of my travels is that no other country seems to drink water as much as the U.S. Every dinner we go to our drink choices are either beer or coke. All the kids drink coke or fanta all day at the school. I'm trying to stay hydrated and usually only drink water- I am sweating most of it off but am still having to use the squat a few times a day. It's so weird to have to bring your own tp and soap wherever you go to.
The welcome dinner had so many interesting dishes. I tried jellyfish- hated it- teeth slid over the place and it was very hard to bite. It is actually the first thing that has made me gag.
We also ate pigeon, koi fish, mushroom with fish sauce (which was really good), and lotus root.
