Germany

I'm moving to Germany!

7/30/2009

So after I had my phone interview on Tuesday, I got a call Wednesday afternoon offering me a position at Grafenwoehr Army Garrison in German!! It's the base that is about an hour or so away from where I've been at all summer in Ansbach. You can see the map below showing the base (it's southeast Germany- the closest big city is Nuremberg). They just had to double check my transcripts to make sure I was completely qualified for the position. After scrambling around for the last day to get all my transcripts mailed/faxed in (not so easy from Germany by the way), I got the official call!
I had a little scare for about 10 minutes when they couldn't find my GT graduate classes and they told me I wouldn't be qualified for the job but I luckily was able to find them on the UVA website and email them to her.

I am so excited! And so blown away by God's love and kindness to me.
This completely came out of the blue and the amount of stuff that has happened since Friday is amazing to me. I really could not have planned all of this if I had wanted to. Teaching for the Department of Defense in Europe has been a dream of mine for the past 8 years and even when I wasn't pursuing God knew my heart and has given me an amazing gift! God is so faithful and so loving!

So I'M MOVING TO GERMANY!!!! Ahhh! I know it will take me a little while for this to all sink in. Luckily all my stuff is already packed up and in a storage unit back in Texas so I won't have a ton to do besides pack up my classrooms. The Dept of Defense will ship over all my stuff and my car. I do have a lot of paperwork to fill out but hopefully I'll be able to get all that done in the few weeks before school starts. Teachers report on Aug. 26 and schools starts the 31st out here. I would love to be able to be back here to start the school year off with everyone.

On Saturday, I'm going over to Graf -as it's called by the locals ;) to check out the area and see about housing. I'm going to see if my housing allowance will cover a two bedroom so I'll have a place for all my many visitors to stay (hint, hint!!). Graf is a bigger base than Ansbach so I'm kind of excited for all the wonderful opportunities I will have over the next few years here.
