Neuschwanstein
Schloss Neuschwanstein ("New Swan Stone Castle") is one of the most beautiful castles I've ever seen. This was ordered to be built by King Ludwig II in 1869, and is a tribute to the opera writer Wagner. There are swans all over the castle and much of the art depicts scenes from Wagner plays. The castles was never finished due to the king's mysterious and untimely death.
Unfortunately it was rainy again most of the day so I couldn't get any great pictures- I was soaked and think I'm catching a little cold from the weather or from Sean and Mary who have both been sick this past week.
This was the home that Ludwig grew up in and he built is other castle not even a mile away so he could watch all the construction.

We took a few kids on this trip and we had a fun few hours in the car. Afterwards, we stopped by the army post at Garmish to eat dinner at a beautiful resort called Edelweiss. I felt like I was eating in an American restaurant for sure. Garmish is a beautiful place that I'd like to visit again when it's not raining- it's right on the Austrian border and near the tallest mountain in Germany. It was a long but really fun day!
